Switch Datacenters Takes Important Step In European Data centers Expanding

Switch Datacenters has announced a significant milestone in its European expansion strategy: the successful finalization of the land transaction and receipt of all necessary permits for the construction of its new, state-of-the-art data center in Warsaw, Poland (WAW1). This pivotal development paves the way for the commencement of construction on what will be a cornerstone of the company’s growing presence in Europe.

The new data center, Switch Datacenter’s first in Poland, will be strategically located in Warsaw’s Mory area and designed as the region’s largest data center, with 90MW of power capacity and 60MW IT load in the first phase. This modular build, designed for 100+ MW IT load after further expansions, will deliver highly flexible infrastructure to serve various customer needs. It is tailored to high-density AI but also able to serve more traditional cloud applications and compute workloads, supporting both air-cooled and liquid-cooled requirements, using hybrid dry cooling technology.

“This is a momentous day for Switch Datacenters and a testament to our commitment to expanding our European reach and serving our clients’ evolving needs,” said Gregor Snip, Founder of Switch Datacenters. “Securing both land and permits for our Poland project marks our first international expansion outside the Netherlands. Poland’s strategic location, robust digital economy, growing demand for advanced data solutions, and willingness to develop more sustainably make it an ideal market for our next-generation facilities. We are excited to bring our expertise, innovative design, and sustainable approach to the region.”

The Polish data center will offer wholesale colocation, connectivity, and services, providing businesses with the resilient critical infrastructure required to support cloud adoption, AI initiatives, big data analytics, and other compute-intensive workloads. By building in advanced hybrid dry cooling technologies, energy efficiency solutions, and working with local renewable energy partners, Switch Datacenters plans to operate according to its sustainability mission with its new Warsaw facility.

“We are incredibly proud to officially announce the commencement of our project in Poland,” added Roland de Vries,  Director for Switch Datacenters and currently in charge of its development. “Local authorities and partners have been instrumental in reaching this stage, and we look forward to fostering strong, long-term relationships within the community. This  will not only provide essential sustainable digital infrastructure but also create significant local employment opportunities and contribute to the region’s economic growth.”

Construction is set to begin early next year, with the first phase of the data center expected to be operational by early 2027.

Switch Datacenters wants to express gratitude for the instrumental contributions of key partners, in particular Maciej Kowalski, and to investment partner Han de Groot with DGFO (De Groot Family Office). Special thanks are also extended to the Municipality of Ożarów Mazowiecki (Urząd Miasta w Ożarowie Mazowieckim) for their unwavering support throughout this process.

Maciej Kowalski, Founder of Regenate Group, added, “The Polish digital ecosystem has grown rapidly over the last few years and needs advanced, AI-ready infrastructure to continue that pace of growth. Switch Datacenters has proven to be an excellent partner, with engineering teams at the technological forefront of sustainable data center innovation.”.
