Microsoft Unveils $80 Billion AI Datacenter Initiative

Microsoft is poised to invest $80 billion in building AI-enabled datacenters worldwide, with more than half of this investment allocated to the United States. The remaining funds will bolster infrastructure in other regions, supporting the global deployment of AI and cloud-based applications.

Brad Smith, Vice Chair and President of Microsoft, emphasized the company’s commitment to designing AI technologies that prioritize cybersecurity, privacy, and responsible use. “We are making this technology available globally through datacenters that meet the U.S. Government’s highest cyber and physical security standards,” Smith said.

Microsoft’s efforts stand unparalleled in scope. The company has pledged over $35 billion across 14 countries within three years to establish trusted and secure AI and cloud infrastructure.

To further enhance these initiatives, Microsoft is partnering with G42, the UAE’s sovereign AI firm, to expand AI infrastructure into Kenya. Additionally, collaborations with Blackrock and MGX aim to establish an international investment fund capable of raising up to $100 billion to support AI infrastructure and supply chain growth.

These investments underscore Microsoft’s ambition to lead the development of AI technologies and infrastructure while ensuring robust security and global accessibility. The initiatives aim to bridge technological gaps, boost economic development, and set benchmarks for AI deployment worldwide.
